Sephora Birthday Gift: Swatches & First Impressions

Another reason to look forward to your birthday every year: some businesses give you free gifts! In addition to Sephora, I love to pick up my free food/drink item from Starbucks on my birthday.

This year, the Sephora birthday gift is your choice of either a Tarte set including a blush and a lip paint, or a Caudalie set including a moisturizer and a serum. As you can tell from the images below, I chose the Tarte set!

Sephora Birthday Gift from Tarte

This set includes:
– Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in paaarty (0.05 oz / 1.5 g)
– Tartiest creamy matte lip paint in birthday suit (0.03 oz / 1 mL)

According to the box, these products are exclusive new shades, but you are still able to purchase the full-size products.

One thing I noticed while swatching this lip paint was that the colour is a lot more brown/orange than it seems in the tube. It looks pinky/nude in the tube, but looks a lot darker on the skin.
The lip paint has a thick consistency, which I expected since it’s called a “paint”. It took about 10 minutes to dry completely (I applied two coats) and once it’s dry it passes the kiss test. I haven’t tried eating anything while wearing the lipstick, but I’m sure it would need a bit of a touch up afterwards.
I did notice that it transferred onto my teeth soon after I applied it. Hopefully once it is fully dried that is less of a problem.

The blush is definitely very subtle, in a swatch and once applied to the face. It looks great for a natural everyday makeup look.

Overall, this is a very nice gift set! I’m not sure if I like the shade of the lip paint on my lips, but I do like the formula.

    • I noticed that after a couple of hours the outer edges of my lips started to fade while the inner portion still looked fine. I think it’s just one that has to be reapplied every couple of hours.

  6. I got the skin care and still haven’t tried it! 😅 I’ve been having issues with breakouts though so I’m limiting what I put on my face and not trying new things until it clears up. The makeup one looks cool though!!

  8. That lip color looks so good on you! I cant wait to get my bday gift from sephora i look forward to it every year! last year I got a Fresh kit, but i really hope they have a makeup option next time around!

  10. My birthday was back in May and I’ve been OBSESSED with both of these products. The lippie is gorgeous and the blush is so damn blendable. Tarte is my favorite brand for sure, they never do me wrong! Be sure you get your Ulta bday gift if you haven’t already, it’s a full size NYX eyeshadow palette. All I got for my bday was a dinky sample mascara! haha. Even if you’re not an Ulta member yet you can still sign up today and get it online or in store. 😉
